Recent findings at RHIC and the LHC in collision systems from small, proton-proton (pp), to large, nucleus-nucleus (AA), show striking similarities concerning several observables, prominently the ridge. The behaviour of such observables is usually attributed, in AA, to collectivity described in macroscopic terms using relativistic hydrodynamics whose requirement of a large opacity, plausible in AA, seems difficult to fulfil in smaller systems. On the other hand, microscopic explanations e.g. in the CGC approach, successful in pp and pA, attribute the origin of these collective-like features to correlations in the wave function of the incoming hadrons. Therefore, the transition from detailed microscopic dynamics in small systems to a macroscopic description in large systems, can be studied in high-energy hadronic collisions.
The focus of the workshop, organised within the COST action Theory of hot matter and relativistic heavy-ion collisions THOR, http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/ca/CA15213, is a discussion about the microscopic explanations for the ridge in the framework of the CGC approach to high-energy QCD, the relation of such explanations with other microscopic approaches as multiple parton interactions and colour reconnections used in Monte Carlo simulators, and how a macroscopic description can emerge when the multiplicity in the system increases. The program for the workshop would consist of a few review talks, one per subject, plus contributed talks on more specific aspects.
The workshop will start on Monday Aug 13th and will finish on Aug 15th. Aug. 12 and 15 are
arrival/departure dates.
