4th Spanish Soft Matter 1 1/2 Day

Organizers:

J. Aragones (UAM), L. Arriaga (UAM), A. Fernandez-Nieves (UB - ICREA), M. Ruiz-Garcia (UCM)

The 4th Spanish Soft Matter 1 ½ Day will be held once again in Benasque from October 28 to October 31. It aims at bringing together soft matter researchers working in this vibrant field within Spain. Systems of interest span granular matter, liquid crystals, colloidal science, droplets, jets, emulsions, foams, polymers, and more broadly any many-particle system with internal characteristic length-scales between atomic and macroscopic dimensions, and that could either be at or out-of equilibrium, as in the emerging field of active matter. Mechanical, optical, electrical, and thermal aspects of these materials are all of interest, as well as their phase and non-equilibrium behavior, linear and non-linear solid- like and/or liquid-like response, and structural and dynamical properties more generally. Additionally, due to the inherent multidisciplinary nature of the field, connections between soft matter and other disciplines, including statistical mechanics, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, complex systems, biology, nanoscience, chemical and mechanical engineering, and physical chemistry are all natural.

The meeting is hosted by the Spanish Division of Condensed Matter Physics (DFMC-GEFES) of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics, and will consist of three invited talks, short talks and a poster session. We hope you will attend irrespective of your type of contribution, as one of the main goals is to continue creating community and exploring synergies and collaborations.

The meeting is currently part of the soft condensed matter network funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science (RED2024-153569-T). Attendees participating in both the 2nd Autumn School on Soft Condensed Matter and the 4th Spanish Soft Matter 1 ½ Day will receive a 50-euro discount provided they are active participants of the virtual seminar series 'Spain Abroad Meets Spain Within Meets Spain Abroad'.

We are pleased to announce the invited speakers for the 1 ½ Day:

- Jaume Casademunt, UBICS, Universitat de Barcelona
- Luis G. MacDowell, Universidad Complutense de Madrid
- Carlos Sanchez-Somolinos, Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), CSIC-Universidad de Zaragoza
