The FIRST Geo-RIN Conference brings together experts, researchers, and industry leaders from Portugal and Spain to advance geothermal energy. Held in Benasque, amidst the stunning Aragonese Pyrenees, this event offers a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Call for Abstracts

We invite researchers to submit extended abstracts for the conference. The template is available for download HERE
Please adhere to the following guidelines:

Formatting Requirements

  • Length: Extended abstracts must be 3 to 4 pages, including figures, tables, and references.
  • Language: English (preferred), Spanish, or Portuguese. Submissions in Spanish or Portuguese must include the title, abstract, and keywords in English.
  • Content Scope: Ensure your submission aligns with one of the conference's main topics: shallow or deep geothermal. Other relevant topics related to geothermal energy may be considered as subtopics under these categories.

Submission Process

  • Abstracts must be submitted through the online submission portal available HERE
  • Authors will receive an automatic email confirming the receipt of their abstract. If no confirmation is received, please contact technical support.
  • Deadline: March 15th, 2025.
Review and Notification

  • All submissions will undergo a peer-review process by experts in the relevant fields.
  • Authors will be notified of the review outcomes by April 15th.
  • Accepted abstracts may require minor revisions before being included in the conference proceedings.
  • Revised abstracts must be submitted to the organization by April 30th.


  • Presentation
    • Authors of accepted abstracts are required to present their work at the conference, either through an oral presentation or a poster session. While you can indicate your preference for an oral or poster presentation when submitting your abstract, scheduling constraints may result in an oral presentation being reassigned as a poster presentation


    • Sponsorship Opportunities

      We warmly invite potential sponsors to propose complementary activities related to the geothermal conference, such as workshops, short courses, technical visits, field trips, demonstrations, social events, etc. These activities, designed to highlight your company, services, or products, can be scheduled on Thursday or Friday following the main conference.       Catering or Coffee Break Sponsorship: Entities such as local organizations, tourism associations, local constructors, or municipal bodies (e.g., Aragón Government, Benasque Council, or the High Ribagorza Region) are invited to sponsor any of the complementary activities, the coffee breaks or the catering services, enhancing the event experience while promoting their brand.

      Funds raised through sponsorship will be directed toward reducing general admission costs and, if surplus remains, will contribute to give awards and prizes for participants.


      Registration fee information

      The registration fee for this conference is 200 eur.

      - The fee includes coffee breaks and bus transfers to and from key locations, such as Barcelona and Zaragoza (Additional destinations may be added based on demand)
      - Submitting an abstract is not required to register for the conference.
      - Students submitting an abstract may request a reduced registration fee.

      *Cancellation Policy*
      A 30 euro charge will be applied for cancellations made up to 10 days before the conference start date.
      A no refund policy will be applied to cancellations made after this date.


      Bus transportation

      The center provides free buses:
      From Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona, Diagonal 686, Metro: L3 Palau Reial at 15:00h (Note that the bus stops opposite University of Barcelona, Facultat de Física i Química)

      From Barcelona airport ('El Prat', Terminal T2A: on leaving exit, turn left and you will find a police building called 'Mossos d'Esquadra'.
      Cross the road using the zebra crossing and turn left. The bus will stop there) at 15:30h.

      Return buses:
      From Benasque to Barcelona airport and then university, departure at 9:00h.
      The trip by bus to Barcelona takes 4-5h. approximately. The trip by car only takes 3h 30m.
